Notes about Dieter Kochan
  • Dieter scored a goal for the B.C. Icemen, on January 5, 1999 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina vs. the Winston-Salem IceHawks in the final minute of the period after the IceHawks had pulled their net-minder. Kochan spoke after the game about the goal "They dumped it into the corner, and I went to the corner to lift it over the defenseman. Their defenseman missed it, and it had just enough steam to get there, barely."
  • Kochan was the first player to be called up directly from the UHL to the NHL. The Tampa Bay Lightning signed Kochan on Monday, March 27th, 2000 to a two year deal and he made his NHL debut on Tuesday, March 28th, 2000 against the Dallas Stars.
  • Kochan was the principal goaltender of the gold medal U.S. roller hockey teams at the 1996, 1997 and 1998 World Championships. He was also goalie of the gold medal team at the 1999 Pan American Games.
